PORTLAND – A suspect has been arrested in connection with six fires in North Portland’s Portsmouth neighborhood over the weekend.

Richard David Simms, Jr., 20, was arrested early Monday morning on five counts of arson and one count of reckless burning, said Portland Fire & Rescue Lt. Rich Chatman.

The fires were set between 3 and 4 a.m. Saturday in the area between North Hodge Avenue and Portsmouth Avenue, from North Houghton Street to Lombard Street, according to Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.

That included two house fires, two vehicle fires, one recycling bin, and one abandoned chair in a parking lot, Simpson said.
