PORTLAND – Damian Lillard says it was the biggest shot of his career – so far.
Lillard made an unbelievable 3-point shot Friday in Game 6 against the Houston Rockets in the last nine-tenths of a second to win Round 1 of the playoffs.
“I’m sure there’s been a lot of huge shots in Trail Blazers history. But it’s definitely the biggest shot of my history with the Trail Blazers,” Lillard said.
On Sunday, in an exclusive interview, Lillard spoke to KGW’s Joe Donlon about how he prepared for the shot, playing in Rip City, and how hard he’s worked to get where he is today.
“I worked hard to put myself in this position,” he said. “I put in a lot of time to become this…having to prove myself, it lights a fire under me."
Donlon also asked Lillard about his game-day facial expressions that he’s become well-known for.
“Everybody in my family does that. It’s a mean mug – like, ‘I was ready for this.’ I’ve been doing the same thing since I was younger. It’s that attitude, that confidence,” he said.
But Lillard was all smiles when Donlon played a video he took on his iPad of the last-second shot.
“That’s crazy,” Lillard said. “I was just watching the reaction of my coaches and everyone on my team."
“Just to know that – just to see how bad they wanted that – I think that shows how much we wanted to win the game and we wanted to get it done,” he said.
