PORTLAND – Freezing rain continued to fall in the Columbia River Gorge Monday morning. Black ice was reported on roads east of Troutdale with chains required between milepost 17 and 44.
Several vehicles were involved in crashes on Interstate 84 at The Dalles just after 8 a.m. The crash was cleared within an hour.
KGW Meteorologist Rod Hill said drivers should avoid I-84 altogether if possible as ice had thickened to a quarter of an inch in some areas by Monday morning.
Rain will replace the freezing rain later Monday and up to 4 inches of rain could fall in the lowlands of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, according to the Associated Press.
Heading into the work week, KGW Meteorologist Jim Donovan said that highs should reach the upper 50s as a series of Pacific storms make their way east.
