Crack in Wanapum Dam triggers Flash Flood Watch

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. – A draw down at Wanapum dam triggered a Flash Flood Watch Friday for Grant County.

The Grant County Public Utility District reported that divers discovered the damage to the dam. The reservoir behind the dam will be drawn down an addition 10 feet from 561.3 feet at a rate of three feet per day.

The Flash Flood Watch has been issued because those that may be on the river below Wanapum Dam should be aware that the water could flow rapidly from the dam.

No flooding is expected but potential exists for increased flow.
