GOVERNMENT CAMP – A 71-year-old hiker was missing since Sunday evening was found Monday night near Government Camp. Searchers located him around 930pm and hoped to have him back to the search command post by midnight.
Tuor was sitting at a campfire with his dog when searchers found him. He told rescuers when he realized he was lost, he lit the fire and stayed there with his dog hoping to be found.
Gary Tuor of Sandy was reported missing by his wife, Sandra Cleveland, Monday around noon after he went hiking and hadn't returned Sunday night.
Cleveland said Tuor had been hiking with his black lab, Buddy, and his hiking partner, 38-year-old Abel Caba, at the Devil's Meadow Campground near Zigzag Mountain west of Mt. Hood, according to Lieutenant Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff's office.
Cleveland drove to the trailhead Monday morning and found Tuor's car. Caba found his way back to the car but said he and Tuor had gotten separated the night before.
Search and rescue crews along with a National Guard helicopter looked for Tuor and his dog near Highway 26 outside of Zigzag starting around 3pm Monday, Wurpes said.
Tuor was reportedly in good health and was familiar with the area.
