PORTLAND -- A passenger was ejected and killed and the driver had to be cut out after a vehicle hit a tree early Friday morning on Southwest Barbur Boulevard.

Rescue crews were dispatched about 3 a.m. to Barbur and Miles Street after reports of a crash. They found a dead person outside the car and the driver trapped inside.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews were able to remove the driver, who was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Barbur Boulevard was temporarily shut down between Terwilliger Boulevard and Capitol Highway while the crash was being investigated. Southbound lanes were reopened about 6:45 a.m. and northbound lanes were reopened about 8:30 a.m.
