PORTLAND -- A bomb squad was called in after an "improvised explosive device" was found near a Southeast Portland church Tuesday, police said.

Police were called just after 10:30 a.m. to the report of a suspicious device near a dumpster outside the Montavilla United Methodist Church, at 232 SE 80th Ave., said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Officers at the scene called in a bomb squad and the device was destroyed just after noon, Simpson said.

There were no evacuations and no injuries were reported.

Portland Fire & Rescue's arson squad is now leading the investigation.  The Federal Bureau of Investigation and ATF agents are helping search for a suspect.
