1 dead, Search for gunman in SE Portland

PORTLAND -- A shooting in Southeast Portland has left one person dead and a search for an armed suspect between Powell Boulevard and Holgate Street from 122nd to 132nd avenues.

The dragnet ended about 6:45 a.m. with no suspect found, said Sgt. Pete Simpson.

The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m., with deceased found outside the Laurel Place Apartments. Police chased a suspect in a car for a short distance before it crashed and the person ran off.

Investigators were looking at a car at Market Street and 92nd Avenue but Simpson declined to say if it was the one involved in the chase.

Two people brought themselves to two separate hospitals for gunshot wounds but police have not said if the incidents were related.

One victim came to Legacy Emanuel just before 3 a.m. About 3:30, a victim came to Portland Adventist Medcial Center.

There were reports of shots fired around Southeast Division Street and I-205 about the same time as the dead victim was found and police closed the southbound off-ramp to I-205 as part of the investigation.
