MEAD, WA--Authorities confirmed that two people are dead in a crash on N. Newport Hwy and E. Lane Park Rd right in front of the Big R.

The northbound lanes of Highway 2 were partially blocked while first responders processed the scene.

Authorities said a pick-up truck was heading north while the car was heading south. The two collided when the vehicle took a left turn in front of the truck near Big R around 4:30 p.m. according to law enforcement on the scene.

The crash killed an elderly couple in the vehicle. The man was 92-year-old Floyd Nordhagen and the woman was his wife 88-year-old Kathryn Nordhagen. Washington State Patrol troopers said authorities arrived on the scene and found the victims holding hands. Officers say they had to tell the woman to let go of her husband's hand so they could get him out of the car.

Two people were in the truck according to authorities. They said both the driver and passenger in the truck were okay.
