WASHINGTON D.C. -- A veteran visiting Washington D.C. for Spokane’s latest Honor Flight had a sweet surprise waiting for him.
The group of WWII veterans and a Vietnam War veteran traveled to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor on Thursday.
Early Friday morning, veteran Troy Garrett had a familiar face greet him. It was his granddaughter, Betsy Wilde, who flew in from Alaska to surprise him. She also brought along her son, his great grandson, whom he had never met.
The Honor Flight is expected to return to Spokane Friday evening. The public was invited to the welcome home ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Spokane International Airport.
