PORTLAND -- A teacher at Gresham's Hauton B. Lee Middle School has been accused of sex abuse. No students were involved in the allegations, according to police and Reynolds School District officials.
John Beasley was arrested Wednesday on rape and sodomy charges, said Lt. Mike Marshman of the Portland Police Bureau. He added that Beasley and the victim knew each other.
Marshman said the victim was over 18 years old and the investigation does not appear to be related to the school.
Principal Dan Kimbrow sent out a statement to parents Thursday that reads, in part:
This letter is to inform you that we learned that Mr. John Beasley was arrested by the Portland Police Bureau and charged with six crimes related to sex abuse or acts on September 18, 2013. At this time, we do not have any reason to believe any Reynolds School District children were involved in these charges.
At this time, we do not have any additional information. We will keep you informed with additional facts. If you have any relevant information to the case, please contact the non-emergency police line at (503) 823-3333.
District spokeswoman Andrea Watson told KGW Beasley is a math teacher at H.B. Lee and he was placed on paid leave when the allegations surfaced. He was schedule to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
