SALEM -- A Salem home was completely destroyed by a two-alarm fire late Wednesday night.

A neighbor heard a loud bang before the fire and jumped into action, pulling a woman out of the burning home. The other renter inside the home made it to safety on his own.

The occupants of the home, a couple, said four cats were still unaccounted for, and they feared the animals were killed in the fire.

The neighbor who rescued the woman said she was hesitant to leave at first because she wanted to save the cats.

The couple does not have renters' insurance. They said the homeowner doesn’t have insurance either.

This is the second fire at the home within a week. The couple moved back in Wednesday after and electrical fire damaged the home just days earlier. Investigators did not know whether the two fires were related.

There was also a fire there in May.

The home was still standing but was a total loss. The couple was being assisted by Red Cross.
