SEATTLE -- The average price of gas has jumped 11 cents a gallon nationwide over the past two weeks.
According to AAA, the average price in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area is $4.04. That’s 33 cents more than a month ago.
The price will vary depending on where you fill up. In Auburn, a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.87 at Arco on 15th Street NE near Emerald Downs if customers pay cash. The price goes up ten cents more if customers use a credit card.
It’s $3.89 at a 76 Station near Ikea in Renton if drivers pay with cash.
Analysts say oil refineries are the issue. One in Texas shut down unexpectedly and others are in maintenance. Supply is tight, but demand is still high.
“It’s frustrating. Our customers get mad. We have to explain why. I don’t even listen to the excuses from the oil companies anymore,” said Dion Torrence, a food delivery truck driver.
Gasbuddy.com says shop around for cheap gas. Also, change the way you drive, try not to accelerate or brake too hard and don't drive too fast or too slow. Most vehicles today are set to achieve optimal fuel economy around 55 miles per hour.
