A head-on collision between an SUV and a sedan shut down all eastbound lanes of State Route 520 during the morning commute Thursday.
The Washington State Patrol said the SUV driver, a man in his mid-20s, went the wrong way in the eastbound lanes. Troopers believe alcohol was a likely factor in the crash.
Both people had to be extricated from their vehicles. A woman in her mid-50s was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver of the wrong way vehicle was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault. He had injuries to his lower leg.
SR 520 was back open by 8 a.m.
Troopers are trying to figure out where the wrong way driver got on SR 520,
"We are hoping someone will come forward with information that could help us out,” said Sgt. John Sager, Washington State Patrol.
They are asking that anyone who may have seen the driver heading the wrong way call them at (425) 401-7740.
