More snow greeted drivers across Western Washington Wednesday, and made for a close call for a Washington State trooper.

The trooper was investigating a one car spinout on State Route 525 at SR 99 when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and hit the trooper's vehicle. Nobody was hurt.

KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott said the mix of rain and snow will change to rain by the middle of the morning. Accumulations of 1-to-2 inches of wet, slushy snow are possible around Puget Sound before it changes to rain.

The Hood Canal area may be stuck with snow until late morning or noon and could see 2-to-6 inches of snow before it’s over. Latest forecast

Rain will turn to showers in the afternoon with highs in the low 40s. Expect blustery winds with possible gusts of 40-to-45 mph around Puget Sound and stronger north of Everett.

If you’re driving over the passes, expect snow with possible brief, freezing rain in the west approaches to the passes. Eight-to-16 inches are possible with the snow level rising from roughly 200 feet in the morning to 1,500-to-2,000 feet in the afternoon.

Expect mostly rain along the coast with wind gusts up to 50 mph possible.
