ESPN and Sports Illustrated’s latest high school football rankings put state 3A champion Bellevue as the top team in the country.
The Wolverines (14-0) defeated Eastside Catholic 35-3 in the title game Nov. 30. It was the fifth straight championship for the Wolverines.
The final ESPN rankings aren’t out until Dec. 24. ESPN said two teams from Texas, No. 4 Katy (14-0) and No. 5 DeSoto (14-0), could vault up to No. 1 if either of them wins the state championship in their respective divisions. First, those teams have to get past their semifinal games this weekend.
DeSoto and Katy are ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the current SI rankings.
The Skyline Spartans (14-0) from Sammamish are ranked 19th by ESPN. They defeated Bellarmine Prep 49-24 to win the 4A championship.
