Airbus is taking a swipe at Boeing in a new ad, claiming that Boeing is stretching the truth about what its new 737 Max and 747 can do. It’s illustrating this by showing the nose of a Boeing plane stretched out like “Pinocchio.”
The headline reads “Why is our competitor stretching the truth?” The ad appeared Monday in Aviation Week magazine.
"They are blatantly misrepresenting the truth by orders of magnitude," Airbus sales chief John Leahy told Reuters. "What is going on is just over the top.”
A Boeing spokesperson told Reuters the company stands by its performance claims.
"Ultimately, our customers will decide based on their experience and analysis relative to their needs,” said spokesman Marc Birtel.
The 737 Max will be built in Renton.
