Uulricka, a military working dog puppy, and her foster mother Ester Nunez attend the military working dog Puppy Program appreciation luncheon Sept. 6. Foster families play an important role in the development of military working dogs, which are assigned to bases worldwide for patrol purposes and explosives and narcotics detection. As foster parents, they expose the puppies to a variety of social settings, caring for the dogs until they are seven months old.
