CLATSKANIE, Ore. -- Investigators were looking for whomever was breeding rabbits at a property in Clatskanie after more than 100 of the animals were found dead on Thursday.

Oregon Humane Society investigators seized 33 live rabbits from the rural property after a Columbia County deputy served a warrant at the home on 78802 Rantala Road.

\Animal control officers said they found the dead animals buried under a large pile of rabbit dung. OHS was searching for the owner of the rabbits, whose identity was unknown.

The animals at the property were breeds typically used for pet rabbits and for show rabbits. The surviving rabbits were brought to the Humane Society facility in Northeast Portland on Friday.

Anyone with information in the case was asked to call (503) 285-7722 ext. 412.
