PORTLAND – Firefighters in Portland rescued a frightened sheep that fell in the Columbia River Slough Saturday.
Portland Fire & Rescue sent KGW pictures of the dramatic rescue that started when the sheep fell into the muddy water around 9:23 a.m.
Firefighters sped to the scene determined to free the panicked animal. After a quick huddle, rescuers decided the best way to get the little guy out would be to lower a ladder down the embankment and try to grab it.
The plan went off like gangbusters with crews carefully pulling the sheep from the sludge. Aside from being cold and dirty, the sheep was uninjured, and it was placed back in the pasture.
