We love doing special things for our pets - including whipping up treats filled with flavor.

Our pet vet, Dr. Cary Waterhouse from Lake Union Veterinary Clinic in Seattle joined Margaret with a simple recipe that can be tweaked to fit any dog's health issues.

Here's Dr. Waterhouse's recipe for the healthy dog treats:

Ingredients:

1 cup "dry" - whole wheat flour, rye flour, oat flour, ground quinoa, ground potato buds, etc.

1 cup "wet" - broth, peanut butter (1/2 cup w/ a thin liquid), applesauce, canned pumpkin, etc.

1/4 cup rolled oats

1/2 Tablespooon baking powder (use less for crunchier treats)

1 teaspoon "aromatic" - cinnamon, oregano, thyme, etc.

Directions:

Mix everything together in a bowl

Roll out to 1/4" and cut with cookie cutter, or pinch off teaspoon-sized pieces and place on lined baking sheet (or use vegetable oil spray)

Bake 20 to 30 minutes (until golden) at 375°F
