PORTLAND – If you’re achieving your New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, there’s a cat up for adoption that could use your help.

“Obese cats are no laughing matter, and we will give a free bag of low-calorie cat food and a laser pointer for exercise to whoever adopts Walter,” Oregon Humane Society executive director Sharon Harmon said.

OHS said 28-pound Walter was one of the largest cats ever seen by the staff, Starting Thursday, the “Lucky 12” adoption campaign has all adult cats and rabbits up for adoption for just $12. The campaign runs until the end of the month.

Adoption fees for cats are usually $55 - $85 and $35 for rabbits and includes spay/neuter, an ID chip, initial vaccines, one month of pet insurance and a free veterinary exam.
