In my house the rule is no cell phones at the dinner table.  Rarely are we all in the same place at the same time, so I don’t want outside distractions interrupting our one opportunity to connect.  My children are quick to remind me of that rule if, on occasion, I feel tempted to look at a buzzing text message.

Mobile devices have become such a big part of our lives that it’s hard to imagine living without them.  But some doctors believe they’re driving parents to distraction and putting kids in danger.  Studies show more kids are showing up in emergency rooms across the country.  The Centers for Disease Control reports a 12 percent increase from 2007 to 2012.  And while no studies prove it yet, some doctors see a clear cell phone connection.  So they’re urging parents to stay alert and create cell phone time that's separate from the time you spend with your children.  If you’re plugged into the phone while they’re on the playground you’re not interacting with them and you may not be aware if your little one takes a tumble off the monkey bars.
