SEATTLE -- Tasty new gourmet fare awaits hungry Mariners fans at Safeco Field for Friday's home opener.
Celebrated local chef Ethan Stowell and hospitality provider Centerplace have designed a new menu for the stadium's restaurants and general concession stands.
The menu features more locally-sourced, natural and sustainable foods, including 100-percent grass-fed beef and a specially made sweet Italian sausage. Both are from Oregon-based farms that focus on naturally grown meats.
"So people can come in and feel better about what they're eating, feel more comfortable having their kids have a barbecued sandwich or a burger, whatever it may be," said Ethan Stowell. "The Mariners are really on board, they're leading the charge throughout the country and stadiums, really going local with their products."
Some of the new menu items include a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a spicy apple jalapeno slaw, a cheddar bratwurst served with sauerkraut made with Washington Riesling, and an oyster po'boy sandwich made with shellfish from Taylor Farms in Washington. CLICK HERE for photos of the new menu items
The change-up is part of a gradual multi-year plan to have an entirely "Northwest menu," featuring locally-sourced ingredients and eventually wines. Each year, Safeco plans to unveil menu items on opening day.
“Seattle is a great food city and as we saw in The ‘Pen last year, the fans understand and appreciate honest food. We’re looking forward to seeing them enjoy this year’s new foods in more places than ever,” said John Sergi, Centerplate Chief Design Officer.
Prices for the new menu items range between $8.50 to $9.75.
