Summertime and the living is easy, with late night bedtimes and late morning wakeups. That easy living is about to come to a screeching halt when kids head back to school in the coming weeks. So, this is a good time to start easing them back into the routine. Experts say, don’t wait until the last minute to adjust your child's sleep habits. They suggest you change your child's bedtime gradually to ward off behavioral and academic problems that sleepy students experience.
-Try to back up the sleep time everyday by about fifteen minutes at a time in the two weeks before school starts.
-Cut off all electronics at least a half hour before bedtime. They can make your brain think it's still daytime.
-Keep the house a little bit darker starting at dinnertime. Room darkening shades, blinds, curtains can trick the body into thinking that it's time to go to sleep
-Limit caffeine to at least 6 hrs before bedtime.

Tune in to Northwest Families each week for more information to get you ready to head back to school. You can watch Northwest Families Wednesday mornings during the 10 a.m show and Thursday mornings during the 8 a.m. show on NWCN. You can also check us out on Facebook .
