Dallas drive-in theater may close for good

DALLAS, Ore. -- This weekend could be your last chance to patronize the Motor Vu Drive-In, ranked one of the 10 best in the United States.

According to a post on the Motor Vu Drive-In Facebook page, the theater is closing early for the season and possibly permanently.

“...it's possible that this is the last weekend for always. Our landlord had a meeting with us earlier this year that the land is up for sale…” said the Facebook post. “Before anyone asks, there was no way we could afford the price tag of the land, and for those that suggest crowd-funding, I don't see that working either when it's over $1mil. We are still awaiting an official word from the landlord and will share as soon as we receive the information.”

Motor Vu was voted number seven in the USA Today10 Best Readers' Choice Awards for best drive-in movie theater. A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees and the top 10 were determined by popular vote. The 99W Drive-In in Newberg was ranked number one.

Final shows include “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” and “Magnificent 7” on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22.

Cost is $5 per person with a minimum $20 per vehicle. Age 3 and younger are free. Gates open at 7 p.m.

The drive-in is at 315 SE Fir Villa in Dallas. Call 503-623-4449 for showtimes.
