Portland man learns both adopted brothers have died

Portland man searches for long-lost brothers

UPDATE: Linhares' wife sent KGW the following message:

Hi there - Just wanted to give you an update. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we report that we have located the family that adopted John and Robert and have learned that they both have passed away.  As you can imagine this is a lot to process and we ask that you give us time as a family to recoup.  From what the adoptive family was able to share, we have an energized interest in addressing the incredible failings in the foster care system. Thank you for your support and interest in getting the story out.

Original story below

PORTLAND, Ore. -- It’s been a long, tough road for Alan Linhares.

Growing up, he went in and out of foster care. He said his life has been filled with trauma, suffering physical, mental and sexual abuse at the hands of foster parents as well as his own mother.

Even though he has two other brothers, he grew up alone.

When he was around five years old, he and his two brothers John and Robert were somehow separated. He said he’s learned that his brothers were adopted out together, possibly to a home in the Astoria area.

He grew up bouncing from home to home.

Now 37, Linhares wonders how it happened, that he and his brothers were ripped apart. Now he wants to find them and reconnect.

It all started about a week ago when his wife took to social media and posted a photo of Linhares and his brothers together as kids. It’s the only photo he has of his brothers.

In less than 12 hours, the Facebook post got about 100 shares. Now, it’s up several hundred shares as people across Oregon try to help reunite Linhares with his brothers.

Linhares and his partner have set up a public Facebook page tracking their progress. They hope someone out there can help Linhares find his long lost family.
