High winds batter storm-weary Western Washington

SEATTLE - High winds descended on the storm-weary Pacific Northwest on Sunday, with gusts  to 50 mph in some areas.

A high wind warning was in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for the San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island, Bellingham, Anacortes and the Coast. A hurricane force wind warning was issued from Cape Flattery to Cape Lookout.

The Coast Guard closed river bars at Siuslaw River, Ore., Depoe Bay, Ore., and Quillayute River, Wash., due to treacherous conditions.

Snow fell in many areas west of Seattle on Sunday. Snow was reported in Bremerton, Montesano, Seabeck, Tayuha and Lake Symington.

A flood watch is in effect for Grays Harbor, Thurston and Lewis counties. Futurecast

Puget Sound Energy said around 79,000 customers in King, Pierce and Thurston counties were still without electricity as of about 5 p.m. Sunday.PSE said the majority of customers would have power restored over the weekend. Click for latest restoration information

Another strong storm system will affect the region Tuesday through Thursday. This storm or set of storms could bring a couple of punches of rain, hitting the southern portion of Western Washington the hardest.
