SEATAC, Wash. - Sen. Maria Cantwell says a bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration includes a number of benefits for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The bill is expected to speed up the FAA's transition to a GPS-based air-traffic control system, rather than the 60-year-old radar system that's currently in use. Cantwell says Sea-Tac will be among the first airports in the nation to make the switch, and that will allow for more direct landings -- shortening flight times, reducing emissions and cutting fuel use by 175,000 gallons a month.
The bill also authorizes airport-improvement grants that could support more than 12,000 jobs in the state
