Ask Dr. P: Causes of impaired digestion
02:29 PM PDT on Friday, August 5, 2005
Dear Dr. P: I have been suffering from getting sick several times daily for two years, slow stomach motilty, ulcerative colitis, stomach pain , acid reflux, etc. and are at the end of my rope so to speak. I have seen a doctor in Everett, UW Hospital, and Virginia Mason to no avail. Thanks, Teresa
Hello Teresa: You are correct in getting help for your problem. Impaired digestion leads to impaired absorption of nutrients, which then leads to other health problems down the line. Naturopathic medicine is very effective in the treatment of reflux, "slow digestion" and ulcerative colitis. Hidden food sensitivities and/or an insufficiency of enzymes or hydrochloric acid (necessary for digestion) are often culprits. In other cases persistent irritation in the digestive system occurs following an infection leading to the problems you list. Either way, a good ND can help. Feel free to contact our office for more information. The first step is to get help.
Best regards, Dr. P
