KEXP Week of 9/19 - Steve Gunn, Porches, Foals, Echo & The Bunnymen, El Ten Eleven

KEXP's shows this week feature Steve Gunn, Porches, Foals, Echo & The Bunnymen, El Ten Eleven and Nirvana's Nevermind anniversary.

This week of music kicks off with Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Steve Gunn, tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 21, at Barboza. Gunn is a former guitar player for Kurt Vile's band The Violators. His latest solo album is called Eyes on the Lines.
Dreamy New york synth-pop outfit Porches play The Crocodile on Thursday, September 22. Porches is a project of musician Aaron Maine. He released the sophomore album Pool earlier this year. It was recorded in Maine's New York City apartment.
A big show coming up on Friday, September 23, as British rockers Foals play The Paramount. Foals are awesome live. Keep an eye on frontman Yannis Philippakis, who is known to crowd surf and leap off balconies. But jumping off the balcony at the Paramount sounds like a pretty terrible idea….
Also on Friday, September 23, one of the bands my mom used to tell me to turn down as I blasted them in my room, Echo & The Bunnymen play The Moore. Echo & The Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978. Lead singer Ian McCulloch left the group in 1988, and they disbanded in 1993. They reformed in 1997 with all 3 surviving original members, and have been touring ever since.
And finally, this Saturday, September 24,  KEXP presents Los Angeles post rock duo El Ten Eleven at Neumos. These guys put out a ton of sound for a two-piece. Oh, and the name? It comes from an airplane, the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar.
That will do it for this week, but tune in to KEXP all week long as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind, which turns 25 on Saturday. We'll have exclusive interviews and Nirvana memories to share on air, and a special celebration on the show Audioasis on Saturday at 6pm.
