National Award-Winning Reporter Will Host "KING 5 Up Front"

Seattle, WA – Former KING 5 reporter Robert Mak is returning to the newsroom on June 21st and will host KING 5’s award-winning Sunday morning show "Up Front." (NBC’s Wimbledon Tennis coverage preempts the show’s regular time slot until July 11.)

Mak first started at KING 5 in 1992 leaving in 2008 to work in the Seattle City Mayor’s office. His reporting at KING 5 earned twelve regional Emmys and three national Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Television Political Journalism.

"Experience counts in local news and Robert’s 16 years covering our region adds still more bench strength to the newsroom with the most experience in Western Washington,” says Mark Ginther, executive news director KING 5 News.

KING 5’s Up Front airs on KING 5 at 9:30 on Sunday mornings and again on KONG TV at 11:00.

Robert Mak and Up Front producer Mike Cate have won three Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Television Political Journalism from USC Annenberg School of Communication.  Judges for the national award praised the team for how they “dug deep into issues, providing viewers with clear explanations that would help them understand their choices at the polls."

Mak’s television career began at the CBS affiliate in Madison, WI in 1987. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
