For the second year, KING 5 is asking the community to help fill food bank shelves across western washington this summer. Northwest Harvest will again be the beneficiary of all dollars and food raised; and for 2010 we are happy to welcome Northwest Carpenters as a sponsor of the event.
Summer is a time when access to free or reduced meals goes away for the children who need them them most.
In the fall of 2008, 42% of all Washington school children sign-up for free and reduced-price school meals, yet only 11% had access to nutritious meals that summer.
The School's Out! Summer Food Drive was conceived as a way to bring attention to the summertime childhood huger gap.
By filling the shelves of local food banks, nutritious, kid-friendly meals can make their way to low-income families. Help KING 5 and Northwest Harvest make a difference for Washington children.
