SEATAC, Wash. - Starting today, Sea-Tac Airport is changing what it charges for parking. What you'll pay will depend on convenience.
If you're running late, you can pay a little more and park with direct access from the terminal across the sky bridge. And the system is more streamlined. It used to be you'd park in short term or long term parking; now it's all lumped together.
Drivers will find new signs directing them up to the parking garage. Right off the bat, they'll need to choose between two rates: $3 an hour for general parking or $4 an hour for the closer spots to the terminal in "Terminal Direct." There are also signs showing you how many spaces are available on each level of the garage.
Under the old rates, parking was $2.50 for half an hour or less, $4 for an hour, and $7 for between one and two hours. Airport officials say it all got too confusing for people to calculate. The new system eliminates different hourly and daily areas and the multi-tiered rates. And you can park anywhere short and long term.
Full-day rates do not change. You'll still pay $26 per day for general parking and $35 for Terminal Direct.
