LARCH MOUNTAIN, Ore. - Two men lost overnight near Larch Mountain have been located and are safe.
The men are now safely off the mountain after a search that lasted more than five hours.
Tuesday afternoon, two men in their 20's - one from Canby, the other from Portland - went for a day hike up Larch Mountain, parking their cars at the Multnomah Falls Lodge area.
At around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night, they called 9-1-1 to report that they were lost.
Rescue crews responded and tried to zone in on their locations using the signal from the hikers' cell phones.
There's still 3-5 feet of snow in the area, and the men were dressed lightly. Rescuers say they were not prepared to be outside at night.
"Based on the fact that they had t-shirts and shorts and weren't equipped for snow; for staying out - obviously we started a rescue immediately," said Deputy Eric Gustafson with the Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office.
The two men were located just after 2 a.m., and taken off the mountain by snowmobile.
