WOLF LODGE BAY, ID -- The Idaho Department of Transportation destroyed the biggest reminder of one of the most gruesome crimes in the Inland Northwest when crews demolished the former Groene home in Wolf Lodge Bay early Saturday morning.

The house was where convicted killer Joseph Duncan murdered Brenda and Slade Groene and Mark McKenzie in May of 2005.

Duncan also kidnapped Dylan and Shasta Groene there before taking them to a Montana campsite where he killed Dylan. He later was caught with Shasta in Coeur d'Alene in July of 2005.

The home sat on the side of Interstate 90 and was a daily reminder for people who drove by of the horrible crimes that happened there.

State officials said the property where the home stood will be turned into a wetland.
