Charlotte Starck
A Seattle native, Charlotte Starck joined the KING 5 News team in October of 2007 as a reporter and fills in regularly at the anchor desk for NorthWest Cable News.
Emmy nominated for her crime reporting again in 2007, Charlotte grew her career in California with KUSI in San Diego where she was an evening anchor and reporter. There, she was honored with an Emmy for her special report on street racing, "Too Fast, Too Furious: The Hansen Story." She has also received numerous awards and honors from the Associated Press for Best Investigative Reporting, Best News Writing, and Best Anchor Team in the Southwest region of the United States. Starck also received Press Club honors for Live and Spot News Reporting.
A veteran journalist, Starck has reported from the scenes of some of California's worst disasters, including the Los Angeles Riots, the Northridge Earthquake, and San Diego's October 2007 Wildfires. Of these experiences, Starck says, "The best reporters don't run away from danger, they run to it. That's where you find some of the most important stories that need to be told."
As a former Press Club president in California's central valley, Charlotte took a leadership role in the community and has been recognized with a California Legislative Assembly Resolution honoring her "significant contributions to the local community and throughout the state." The legislative honor recognized her efforts "helping to foster better understanding through intelligent, perceptive and first rate public information."
Starck is a former Seattle Seafair princess, and an alumni of the University of Washington. She transferred to San Diego State University graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science. At SDSU she worked as an assistant at the university's Institute on World Affairs, a rare public speaking forum for international diplomats. Just weeks after graduating from college she was named the weekday main anchor at KYMA in Yuma, Ariz., anchoring the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. evening newscasts. She continued as an anchor and reporter in Bakersfield, Calif., at KBAK and KGET.
In San Diego, Charlotte was also known as a small business owner opening the first meal assembly franchise in the county. She and a partner sold, but the store still serves as a signature store in the large Dream Dinners franchise.
She is currently a member of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences and participates with numerous local and national non-profit and law enforcement agencies promoting children's and women's causes. Her speaking engagements and volunteer work include the Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officers Association, National Association of Women Business Owners, Women’s Business Center, ACTION Network (Against Child Trafficking In Our Neighborhoods), the American Cancer Society, American Kidney Foundation, American Lung Association, Community Catalysts, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity.
